Volunteer Information

There are endless volunteer opportunities available at Claremore Regional Hospital. Teenagers, adults and senior citizens alike donate many volunteer hours to provide support to the hospital.

Auxiliary

The Claremore Regional Hospital Auxiliary, with a membership of more than 80 active volunteers, donates over 12,000 hours of service each year. Volunteers can be found providing assistance in Patient Transportation, hosting the waiting areas for Surgery, Emergency and Outpatient Services, directing visitors at the Information Desk, delivering flowers and mail, providing courier and clerical services and operating the hospital Gift Shop.

Over the past 29 years the Auxiliary has donated tens of thousands of dollars in hospital equipment and scholarships to students in pursuit of careers in the medical field. With funds raised through Gift Shop sales, Book Fairs, Jewelry Shows, Vending Machines and First Baby Photo proceeds, the Auxiliary has purchased video equipment for patient education, portable incubators, treadmill equipment, highchairs, wheelchairs, gurneys and much more.

The Auxiliary also provides additional support to the hospital and community by participating, as volunteers, in quarterly blood drives, and in the city/county disaster preparedness plan. The Auxiliary actively supports the Rogers County Adult Daycare program and the Hair Fashions for Cancer Patients program.

Claremore Regional Hospital is fortunate and proud to have such a dedicated and committed group of volunteers. Their efforts truly increase the efficiency of hospital operations.

If you are interested in donating your time to a fulfilling volunteer opportunity, where what you do "makes a difference," please contact the Volunteer Office at (918) 342-6712.

Junior Volunteers

The Junior Volunteer program at Claremore Regional is a branch of the hospital Auxiliary that provides volunteer opportunities for young people. Teenagers can begin volunteering when they are 14 years old. They are placed in areas of service that are suited to their capabilities and can be found assisting in nursing areas by filling water pitchers, making copies, delivering messages, checking the mail, and delivering flowers.

Becoming a Junior Volunteer is a wonderful experience that teaches young people the value of volunteer work, the satisfaction of helping others and provides them a work history before they go out to find a job. Many former Junior Volunteers find their community service at Claremore Regional to be important when they begin to apply to colleges.

For more information on becoming a CRH Junior Volunteer, please call (918) 342-6712.

School to Career

High School juniors and seniors who think they may want to pursue a career in the medical field can make a more educated decision after spending a semester in the Shadow Student program at Claremore Regional Hospital. CRH works closely with Rogers County high school's "School to Career " programs. Students go through a hospital orientation much like the one held for new employees. They learn about patient rights, confidentiality issues, infection control, fire and safety procedures and ergonomics. They have a TB screening and their inoculation records are put on file. They are then placed with a mentor in their area of medical interest where they can observe the daily routine of the job. The students receive one high school credit hour for their semester in the "School to Career" program. They are evaluated by their mentor and the evaluations are sent to their respective schools.

Since 1995 students from Claremore, Sequoyah, Chelsea, Foyil and Adair have gained valuable experience through the "School to Career" Shadow Program at Claremore Regional Hospital. They have shadowed in the nursing areas of Med/Surg, OB, ER, ICU/CCU and Outpatient Surgery. They have observed daily operations in Dietary, Pharmacy, Cardiac Rehab, the Business Office, Materials Management, Physical Therapy, Radiology and the Heart Cath Lab. Often they complete their semester at the hospital even more enthusiastic about their chosen field. They always admit it was a good learning experience.

For more information about the medical "School to Career" program, contact the counselor at your high school or call (918) 342-6712.
